What’s actually in your clothes
The clothing industry is almost entirely unregulated when it comes to fabric chemicals.
Formaldehyde. Carcinogenic dyes. Heavy metals. These substances are found in clothing sold at every price point, from fast fashion to department stores. There’s a reason fast fashion brands make headlines when it comes to this topic, but it really is the entire industry.
Most brands don’t tell you what’s in their fabrics because they aren’t required to. That has never sat right with us.
The Arava standard
We seek out fabrics certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is one of the most rigorous textile safety certifications in the world. Every fabric bearing that certification has been tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances, including pesticides, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and allergenic dyes.
If it touches your skin all day, it should meet that standard. Most of our fabrics carry it, and your stylist can tell you exactly which.
